Training: A Simple Guide to Risk Assessments

Undertaking risk assessments is the corner stone to good safety management. There has been a legal requirement to assess risk since 1992, but many organisations still do not understand what is actually required.

Understanding the principles of sensible risk assessment is essential in balancing commercial considerations and legal compliance. All too often organisations go “over the top”, hence the many ‘elf and safety stories that the media just love to talk about. This short briefing will help to explain what the law requires; the areas you need to risk assess together with some practical pointers on how to do this. This briefing should dispel the popular myths associated with risk assessments.

This pragmatic, no-nonsense course is presented by a fully qualified Safety Trainer and Practitioner who has extensive safety legislation knowledge, combined with real hands-on experience in the implementation of successful health & safety management systems within SME organisations.

Who should attend?

Business owners, Directors appointed with Safety responsibilities, Senior Managers with Operational responsibilities or if you have been nominated as the Competent Person for safety. No previous safety knowledge is required although attendance on the other 2 safety courses would be useful to give you the full context of what is required.

What will the course cover?
  • What is a risk assessment?
  • Do you have to risk assess all organisational activities?
  • What does the law require from a risk assessment?
  • Who should undertake risk assessments?
  • It’s just a paperwork exercise is it not?
  • What measures should you consider to reduce risks?
  • What are safe systems of work?
  • Why do I need to train?
