In between the worsening pandemic and the chaos created by Brexit negotiations before Christmas, the Government slipped through a very detailed, 45 page document regarding the right to work in the UK.
Most employers should already be carrying out these checks, but it has become much more important since our exit from the European Union, as European citizens no longer have an automatic right to work in the UK. Especially if they were not living here before the end of last year.
In our first Coronavirus webinar this year, nearly 75% of you voted for an extended Right to Work Checks webinar.
We will cover:
- The new system
- EU citizens
- Pre-settled status
- Non-UK nationals
- Manual, online and remote checks
- and more...
Please note, this is not an immigration webinar, though we touch on some of the principles, it is designed to allow employers to carry out the right checks to ensure they do not incur penalties.

As the Government announces it is on track for a complete relaxation of the rules for 19 July, we look back at the last 18 months and asked what has changed in the employment relationship during that time.
There have been a number of important changes to the law, both through legislation and case law. Brexit has meant a fundamental change to our relationship with the EU, and with EU workers.
And with a nervous nation returning to the workplace, there is far greater awareness of health and safety protocols, risk assessments and safe ways of working. How can employers ensure they do the right thing, while protecting themselves and their workforce?
This free course will cover:
- What workers and employers really think?
- New legislation
- New case law
- Health and safety
- Return to the workplace
- ...... plus others
Led by Guy Liddall, with in-depth analysis from Cathy Norton and Peter Stanway, these two one hour sessions will be time well spent.

Many organisations have noticed a significant skills shortage, so it is not so easy to recruit replacement staff as it was. This means it is important to get the best out of your existing staff. Many employers only use the disciplinary procedure when they are actively looking to remove staff rather than recognising that it is a tried and tested formal performance management system, which if done correctly, can correct behaviours and reduce the need to dismiss employees.
Managers are often very reluctant to use the disciplinary procedure because they have not been trained in how the procedure can work for them. Instead, Managers avoid using the disciplinary procedure because they are aware that dismissing staff can have serious implications if done badly.
We will also discuss the importance of dealing effectively with new starters and those with less than two years’ service in the event they are not meeting expectations, and how they can be departed safely using a shorter but fair process.
This course will cover the differences between a fair and unfair dismissal; why following the ACAS code and internal procedures is essential; and the key practical issues to consider when dealing with discipline, dismissal and redundancy processes. The aim of the course is to encourage delegates to follow proper procedures and apply sound judgement.
We have designed the course to suit those who are new to Management, as well as being a worthwhile refresher for the experienced Manager looking to enhance their existing skills, and wants to be more successful by learning new/different approaches.
Our course is highly participative, practical in content, and intended to challenge our delegates into recognising there are always alternative ways of dealing with employee issues.
The course will commence at 8.30 am, with registration and refreshments from 8.00 am, and will finish around 1.30 pm, with breaks for refreshments and lunch.
The cost for this course will be £100.00 plus VAT per delegate, including lunch. Clients get one free training place per topic, with extra places costing £100.00 plus VAT.

Managing people often strikes fear and dread into Managers, but it does not have to be that way. By coming along to our short, but informative course, Managers will gain the confidence needed to manage people, and most importantly, avoid finding themselves on the wrong side of employment law - which can be costly!
Based on our extensive HR experience, we will talk about the most misguided beliefs that Managers hold as fact about employment law. We will also discuss the most frequent mistakes Managers make when dealing with staff; as well as difficulties created through lack of documentation, or not knowing or following their own employment procedures. We will identify the key employment policies and why Managers need to be familiar with them. This should also assist Managers to understand the importance of why these policies need to be applied correctly.
The course will debunk myths to make sure you avoid fear and confusion when dealing with staffing issues. We’re here to give you the confidence to manage people effectively and we’ll do this through fun interactive sessions and an extensive quiz to help reinforce the learning.
